Van Stock Counts: Expected Quantity, Count and Variance

How a mobile van stock count compares expected and counted quantities, records evidence and controls the final inventory adjustment.

Reviewed August 22, 2026 by SystemLineage

Direct answer: A van stock count should fix the vehicle and item list for one count session, show the expected quantity, accept a manual or barcode-assisted count, and calculate the variance. Nothing changes stock until an authorised person reviews the evidence and posts one controlled adjustment with a permanent history.

Assign one vehicle and count session

A technician should not have to choose the van repeatedly. The assigned session defines the location, expected item list and current status before counting starts.

Make every variance visible

Show expected, counted and difference together. Allow a note or approved image when the company requires evidence, and mark unsaved or failed entries honestly when the connection is unavailable.

Separate counting from stock adjustment

A count records evidence; an adjustment changes inventory. Requiring review between them prevents an accidental count from silently rewriting stock and keeps the posted adjustment traceable.
